White House insider hints at possible ‘plot twists’ before the midterms

President Donald Trump faces mounting challenges from multiple fronts.

According to a Trump administration insider who spoke with The Atlantic, the president struggles with bipartisan criticism over his Iran deal, rising inflation, and declining poll numbers among key demographics.

The Atlantic’s Jonathan Lemire and Russell Berman report Republicans fear a “November wipeout,” as “Trump, whose political image revolves around strength, finds himself diminished.”

Despite Lemire and Berman’s claims, the report also shows Trump’s inner circle is more optimistic. They argue the war “won’t have much political staying power,” and both the recent Supreme Court decisions on cultural issues and the World Cup will help shift the narrative.

“The midterms are months away,” one official told The Atlantic.

“We’ll have lots of plot twists by then.”

Despite the optimism, Trump faces significant obstacles in swaying the narrative, including the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool project described as an “on-the-nose metaphor for the state of his presidency,” and a MAGA state fair undermined by performer cancellations, according to The Atlantic.

“In the face of these struggles, Trump has continued to try to create his own reality,” the publication adds.
