Millie Bobby Brown recalls ‘depression’ trying to ‘mend’ friendships with ‘Stranger Things’ co-stars after show’s end

Millie Bobby Brown revealed she apologized to her “Stranger Things” co-stars after the series ended.

The “Enola Holmes” actress candidly spoked about falling into “a slight depression” after filming the long-running Netflix series during a live recording of Josh Horowitz’s podcast, “Happy Sad Confused,” in New York City Wednesday, according to Variety.

“It was very hard for me,” Brown recalled. “I would not have expected that coming off of the show. I’m a very happy-go-lucky person.”

Brown said she attempted to “mend” any tension between her and her co-stars, which includes David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin and Winona Ryder.

“I was like, ‘We’re still friends, right? Like, you’re not gonna stop talking to me anymore?’” she recalled. “I was like, ‘I’m sorry if I ever upset you,’ and was just trying to mend anything. ‘It’s been 10 years, and I really want to be friends. You’re my sibling.’”

“And then I was on the beach, it was beautiful, and I just sat there crying,” she continued. “It was a very hard time for me.”

Brown, 22, also discussed the immense impact playing Eleven on “Stranger Things” had on her. The show ran from 2016 to 2025, lasting five seasons.

“And no one will ever understand it,” she shared. “I started the show when I was 10, and this character was me, and these people were in my life more than my own family.”

She pointed out, “I saw these people more than going home and eating dinner with my family. Saying goodbye to that after 10 years was a very, very emotional thing, and I’m going to miss Eleven more than anything.”

Brown experienced friction on the “Stranger Things” set, particularly, with Harbour — who played Chief Jim Hopper, her adoptive father on the show — though they’ve since quashed the beef.

Ahead of the Season 5 premiere of the show last November, the Daily Mail reported Brown filed a complaint about Harbour before the series started filming its final season.

Harbour reportedly faced an internal investigation over Brown’s claims, though the outcome of the inquiry was unknown. Additionally, Brown allegedly filmed the series finale accompanied by a personal representative on set.

Harbour confirmed there was tension between himself and Brown in an interview with Variety earlier this month. He compared the drama to families who “occasionally get in arguments, disagreements” but always “come back together.”

Harbour also claimed other people on the show’s set got “involved” in the situation but, once he and Brown “cleared everybody out of the way and talked to each other,” they were “fine.”

“Everyone nowadays is very scared of talking about things,” he reflected. “People are very scared of being human. It’s unfortunate, because I don’t know how to navigate this weird media world.”

“But it was completely normal,” he continued, “and we adore each other and always have.”
