GOP senator’s inadvertent admission ‘more incriminating than he realizes’: analyst

MS NOW’s Ari Melber hit back at an outgoing Republican senator on Wednesday who has been recently vocally critical of President Donald Trump.

During a press gaggle on Wednesday, Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) was asked by a reporter about the Trump Department of Justice trying to prosecute people for allegedly damaging the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Tillis slammed the move, arguing that it seemed to be inexplicable that the DOJ would seek to prosecute the alleged vandals when the president pardoned people who beat police officers during the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol.

“What freaking parallel universe did I wake up in?” Tillis said.

Melber noted during the opening segment of his show, “The Beat,” on Wednesday that Tillis’ comments revealed more than the Senator may have realized.

Tillis is trying to summon some outrage, but his metaphor might be a little more incriminating than he realizes,” Melber said. “Senator, do you feel like you just woke up to all this? This is the universe you woke up to? This corruption, this anti-police agenda, he mentions January 6, [and says he] has been clear for years.”

“He was just trying to avoid upsetting its leader,” Melber said sarcastically, referring to Trump. “I guess now, as he says, what has he woken up to?”
