Donald Trump’s apparent micro-naps during a long, nationally televised Cabinet meeting on Tuesday were turned into fodder on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Wednesday, with the hosts pointing out that it has become a recurring problem.
As the New York Times reported, three times it appeared the president dozed off as administration officials touted his achievements, with the Times adding, “It was the second time in less than a month that Mr. Trump appeared to doze off in public.”
As co-host Joe Scarborough pointed out, the napping by the president, aged 79, has led to increased questions about his health but he may have an excuse for Tuesday’s inability to stay alert.
Setting the stage for Scarborough, co-host Jonathan Lemire stated, “That’s interesting about the timing here in the White House. The New York Times did a story last week examining his schedule, saying he’s working fewer hours than he used to. The White House pushed back furiously and said, ‘No, look, he’s working all hours of the day and he’s tireless.’”
“And then yesterday he falls asleep,” he dryly added.
“Well, again, and the thing is, if you’re again, if you’re sitting there going, oh, this must be a health problem,” Scarborough offered. “I mean, it’s, I don’t know that it’s a health problem. Maybe it’s a health problem, but chances are good it’s because he was up all night rage-tweeting. Like that’s, I think to me, that’s a more concerning thing — that the president of the United States was up all night rage-tweeting and, you know, just spinning out one conspiracy theory after another. So it’s not what happened in the daylight that was so concerning, it was what happened the night before.”
