A 51-year-old man died after falling from a balcony during a rock concert on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, according to the police and Fire Department officials.
The man, whose name was not released, fell during a performance by the band Goose just before 10 p.m. on Saturday, officials said. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he was pronounced dead, the police said.
It was unclear on Sunday exactly where the man was sitting in the venue, how far he fell or what led to the fall, but the Fire Department said he was in the balcony. Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp., which oversees live music performances at the arena, did not respond to a request for comment.
The death occurred during Goose’s second night playing at the Garden as part of its 2026 tour. The band is expected to perform on Sunday night at SummerStage in Central Park.
“We are deeply saddened and heartbroken to learn of the tragic event that occurred at tonight’s show,” the band wrote in a social media post. “We extend our deepest sympathy to everyone affected.”
Deaths at the Garden are rare. In 2023, Ernest Vogliano Jr., 61, died after falling off an escalator following a Rangers hockey game.
