Miley Cyrus appeared on the red carpet with her boyfriend, Maxx Morando, a musician, at the Los Angeles premiere of “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” where she debuted an engagement ring crafted by the Beverly Hills designer Jacquie Aiche. A person with knowledge of the event confirmed their engagement to The New York Times.
Representatives for Ms. Cyrus and Mr. Morando did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Ms. Cyrus, 33, whose song “Dream as One” appears on the film’s soundtrack, posted on her Instagram account photos of herself and Mr. Morando, 27, at the premiere with a lyric from the song: “Baby, when we dream we dream as one.” Fans responded with congratulatory comments and heart emojis.
A Threads post from Dan Morando, who appears to be a relative of Mr. Morando, posted a “Congratulations!” message, with heart and ring emojis, along with photos of the couple at dinner and a close-up of the ring.
The couple has been together since 2021, according to People. In a 2023 interview with British Vogue, Ms. Cyrus said they first met on a blind date. Mr. Morando, a music producer and the drummer for the Los Angeles-based rock band Liily, has also collaborated on Ms. Cyrus’s music. He helped write and produce several songs on her ninth studio album, “Something Beautiful,” which is nominated for best pop vocal album at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
In a 2024 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Ms. Cyrus reflected on their age gap, saying she admired how Mr. Morando sees the world and how he had introduced her to new music. She added that she often works with people she loves and admires, including her ex-husband, the actor Liam Hemsworth. Mr. Hemsworth and Ms. Cyrus divorced in 2020 after marrying in 2018.
Three years after their divorce, Ms. Cyrus emerged with a record-breaking single, “Flowers,” a song about being independent and not needing a relationship. The song won the Grammy for record of the year.
Ms. Cyrus, a former child star who appeared in the Disney show “Hannah Montana,” joins a wave of fellow Disney alumni who have become engaged or married this year, including Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and Zendaya.
The three-time Grammy Award winner has cited consistent therapy as having helped her overcome some of the struggles that came with childhood fame.
In a recent interview on the New York Times podcast “The Interview,” Ms. Cyrus talked about how eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, or E.M.D.R., therapy had helped her overcome her stage fright. She mentioned a moment in therapy where she had been able to envision people whom she loved surrounding her, including the man who would become her fiancé.
“My grandma, my mom — ugh, it’ll get me — my boyfriend, that I have now,” she said, “and they all grabbed me by the hands, and we started playing ring around the rosie, and I came out of it, and I’ve never had stage fright again.”
