President Donald Trump no longer has the mental faculties to truly understand what he is doing day to day, let alone perform the functions of a president, said his “Art of the Deal” co-author Tony Schwartz on MS NOW Thursday.
This comes after a week consumed by reporting about the Iran war, Trump’s slush fund for his political allies, and additional developments in the Jeffrey Epstein trafficking case review, as well as ongoing rants and tantrums on his social media platform.
“Given how well you know him and how he responds to adversity, what does he do with this situation?” Anchor Ari Melber asked Schwartz, a frequent commentator on Trump’s mind.
“I honestly don’t think he has the marbles to do anything. I think it’s happening to him,” said Schwartz.
To understand this, he continued, “you just look at a day like today where he goes from one extreme to the other about Iran and whether he’s going to bomb it or not. And then he tells the world he is. Why in the world would you do that? And, you know, now he’s got the Epstein drama that was created by Maggie Haberman and, and her colleague.”
The bottom line, said Schwartz, is that “I just think that he is lost and really doesn’t have a sense — not that he was so great about this at any time over the last 10 years, but I think he is he is without any instincts other than self-preservation in the immediate moment. And that’s self-preservation in the immediate moment, means he sets himself up for lots of terrible things going forward.”
