This is how much Kevin McCallister’s infamous 1992 Plaza Hotel stay would cost today

This is how much Kevin McCallister’s infamous 1992 Plaza Hotel stay would cost today

At these prices, it would be better to stay home alone for the holidays.

Inflation has soared so incredibly over the last three decades since the iconic film, “Home Alone 2,” aired that Kevin McCallister’s infamous $1,000 Plaza Hotel dessert indulgence looks like pennies on the dollar — compared to its price tag today.

The lavish spread, which memorably included a 16-scoop ice cream sundae, would run an incredible $2,233 in today’s dollars, as the ritzy hotel has kept pace with the rising cost of living, an analysis by travel insurance comparison service, iSelect found.

“Kevin, you spent $967 on room service?” the Macaulay Culkin character’s dad, Peter McCallister, screams in the closing scene of the 1992 blockbuster — his outrage so severe that his voice reverberates through Central Park.

Today, the meal alone would cost more than Kevin’s entire Big Apple excursion in 1992 money.

The trip — from the suite to the sundae — would run $8,511 in 2025, compared to the now-measly $2,109 bill back in 1992, according to iSelect. And that’s not counting the limos or taxis Kevin indulged in.

That’s thanks to a 303% spike in inflation across the bougie hotel’s prices over the last 33 years — since the film’s debut — which iSelect determined by comparing pricing from the Plaza, inflation data and updated menu costs.

The biggest tab would be for The Plaza suiteitself, clocking in at an average of $6,244 per night — though there are suites that go for as much as $33,000.

Back when the notorious 9-year-old was running amok in New York City — when the hotel was owned by President Trump — his room would have cost on average $1,100 a night, according to iSelect.

Just a simple three-scoop sundae with maraschino cherries, M&M’s and chocolate sauce from the hotel kitchen would cost $24 today, compared to $18 when Kevin tormented the staff.

The hotel now even offers up the “Home Alone Sundae” as a homage to the movie — to the tune of $350.

The four-fold total increase should come as no surprise as the country grapples with inflation and overall money troubles.

The unemployment rate ticked up to 4.4% in September, the most recent month for which data are available — and the highest level since October 2021.

Income, however, is growing at minuscule rates nearing those of the 2008 recession.

As of October, the median income growth for people ages 25 to 54 stood at just 1.6% — which could make for a significant reduction in consumer spending this holiday season.
