A GOP congressman who has been absent for more than three months issued a cryptic statement on Tuesday about his upcoming return to work.
Rep. Tom Kean (R-NJ) has not been seen in Washington, D.C., since early March, according to reports. In April, his office said he was dealing with a personal medical issue, and then told the New Jersey Globe in May that he would return to work “in a couple of weeks.”
On Tuesday, Kean reiterated his promise to return “in a couple of weeks,” and provided some additional details about his absence.
“Right now, I am focused on my recovery and under the advice of healthcare professionals, I will transition from virtual work to in-person work in a matter of weeks,” Kean said in the statement, which was reported by Ally Mutnick at Punchbowl News. “At that time, I will be completely transparent as to the nature of my medical condition.”
“Once again, I appreciate all of the prayers and patience from my constituents and colleagues,” Kean continued. “I understand the need for transparency in this matter, and I look forward to sharing my experience with the public.”
