The 2025 Word of the Year

The Oxford 2025 Word of the Year Is ‘Rage Bait’

Every year the Oxford English Dictionary selects a Word of the Year that is meant to reflect “the moods and conversations” that have shaped the previous year. In 2024, the word was “brain rot.” This year, it’s “rage bait.”

Have you heard this word? Did you know that it means “online content deliberately designed to elicit anger or outrage by being frustrating, provocative or offensive”? Do you think it’s an apt word for 2025? Why or why not?

If you were in charge of choosing the word of the year, would you stick with this one, or pick something else?
