Although I’m no longer an Aldi employee, I still shop there often for my grocery staples.
I worked at the chain as a manager for just over four years, and have been a customer there for even longer. Between limited-edition finds and must-buy staples, there are a few frozen items I’m always on the lookout for when shopping for just myself.
Here are a few of my favorite buys from Aldi’s frozen section.
Season’s Choice frozen fruit is great for smoothies.
I’m a smoothie enthusiast, but I’m not good at keeping fresh fruit ripe, so having frozen options is everything to me.
Typically, I stock up on Season’s Choice frozen fruit at Aldi. I find that the frozen fruit selections here typically cost about half as much as I’ve seen at other grocery stores.
Mama Cozzi’s pepperoni pizza snacks taste more expensive than they are.
Aldi often has its own store-brand versions of household staples, and I think Mama Cozzi’s pepperoni pizza snacks are a great dupe for Totino’s Pizza Rolls.
To anyone who disagrees with me, I say pizza bites in general are a far shot from gourmet (even if they’re tasty). I’m sure the middle-school children of the world won’t notice the difference.
Season’s Choice plain or garlic-herb riced cauliflower is a great side dish.
The Season’s Choice frozen riced cauliflower easily checks so many boxes for me. It’s a low-carb swap for traditional rice and comes plain or seasoned with garlic and herbs.
The versatility of cauliflower rice is unparalleled. You can dress the cauliflower up or serve it as a side with a wide range of proteins.
I think it’s a must-have if you meal prep or are counting your macros.
Instead of crowding my fridge with cartons of orange juice, I buy Nature’s Nectar frozen concentrate.
I recommend purchasing a couple of the frozen Nature’s Nectar orange-juice concentrates to pop in the freezer.
Finding space in my refrigerator for cartons and trying to finish fresher juice before it expires can be difficult, so I appreciate having the smaller, frozen concentrate option.
I keep them on hand so I can have orange juice to add to my Champagne or serve at all those last-minute brunches I host.
The Kirkwood breaded chicken-breast fillets are a customer favorite.
If you regularly shop at Aldi, odds are you know about the internet-famous Red Bag Chicken. Like many others, I think the Kirkwood breaded and frozen chicken-breast fillets taste similar to what you can get at Chick-fil-A.
When I worked at Aldi, the Kirkwood breaded chicken-breast fillets often flew off the shelves. Although they can be a tad pricier than your basic chicken patties, I believe they’re worth the almost $10-per-bag price.
No matter if you’re creating a fast-food dupe or serving it by itself, these tasty, crispy fillets seem to have cemented themselves as an Aldi favorite for a reason.
The Breakfast Best sausage-and-gravy bowls come together quickly.
For me, making breakfast is one of the worst parts of waking up. If you also struggle to find the time in the mornings to prepare food, try one of the Breakfast Best sausage-and-gravy bowls.
I’ve eaten many breakfast bowls during my first break on my early-morning shifts. After a couple of minutes in the microwave, these can be a satisfying breakfast.
The sausage-and-gravy versions are basic enough that you can level them up with another egg, more sausage, or whatever spices you prefer.
I snack on the Sundae Shoppe keto ice-cream pints for dessert.
If you have a sweet tooth and the Sundae Shoppe keto ice cream is available at Aldi, I highly recommend grabbing a pint.
The dessert is packed in convenient pint-size containers and comes in a variety of flavors — each containing about 5 grams of protein per serving. Personally, I love the peanut-butter-fudge option.
In my opinion, Aldi’s ice-cream offerings are consistently tasty and affordable alternatives to the pricey name-brand competition.
Fusia Asian Inspirations frozen sushi hits the spot.
A frozen shrimp-and-avocado roll might sound unconventional, but the prepackaged frozen Fusia Asian Inspirations version is tasty if you prepare it right. I’ve also seen the brand offer California rolls.
Sushi lovers can’t always be bothered to get takeout, and this frozen version can serve as an easy dinner.
These just need to be thawed before eating. I usually microwave the rolls in 20-second intervals until the rice is soft.
