Six Flags’ new roller coaster will be among Top 5 tallest in the world

This will be one heck of a ride.

Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey is currently constructing a new roller coaster that will be among the Top 5 tallest in the world.

The must-see ride is rumored to be named “Phantom Spire” and is slated to open in March 2027. It promises to be the fastest ride in the 510-acre Jackson Township theme park.

Park officials are likening it to Six Flags’ former 456-foot coaster Kingda Ka, which was demolished in 2025, and was the world’s fastest roller coaster until 2010 — taking riders from 0 to 128 mph in just 3.5 seconds.

“I think people find a lot of similarities but then, they’ll also find a lot of differences. So the ride train will be unique and unlike anything I would say 99% of the general public has experienced,” Ryan Eldredge, sales and marketing director at Six Flags, told NJ.com.

Yesterday, Eldredge spoke via an Instagram video where he’s standing in front of the massive project, which he said has been “underway now for the past six months.”

“As you can see, the tower is being erected behind me,” he said in the clip.

“This ride is not only unique and dynamic and thrilling … but we’re kind of creating the next generation of thrills here at Great Adventure.”

The ambitious undertaking is being dubbed “Project Purple,” because the park is partnering with Project Purple, a nonprofit supporting pancreatic cancer, to raise awareness for the disease.

Once the roller coaster is fully built in the fall, it will then be getting three to four months of safety testing and training.

Six Flags will officially announce the ride and its name in June or July.
