Retired judge trashes Trump’s new anti-weaponization fund on CNN

A retired judge ridiculed Trump’s anti-weaponization fund during her appearance on CNN.

CNN anchor Jake Tapper read a quote by a January 6 rioter who wants Trump’s fund to “allow him to retreat into a quieter life. I think I’ve earned my peace.”

Shira Scheindlin, a retired judge of the Southern District of New York, laughed at the statement, saying, “He hasn’t earned anything. He was a rioter.”

She noted that Trump “is calling these people innocent victims of weaponized prosecution” who could be rewarded through this $1.8 billion fund.

However, the claim “is just nonsense,” Scheindlin continued.

“In no way are they victims!” she exclaimed. “In no way are they entitled to compensation!”

She warned that the “collusive settlement” between Trump and the IRS that created the anti-weaponization fund “really affects the integrity of the judicial process.”

Scheindlin is also part of a coalition of judges who filed a motion to reopen a case and stop the fund, and noted she and other judges “have a strong interest in intervening.”
