Between streaming and cable, viewers have a seemingly endless variety of things to watch. Here is a selection of TV shows and specials that are airing or streaming this week, May 25-31. Details and times are subject to change.
A couple of second seasons
Is a situationship that involves dirty money hot and risqué or a total nightmare? That’s one of the questions that the second season of “Deli Boys” will explore. Asif Ali and Saagar Shaikh return to their roles as Mir and Raj, as they navigate swimming in tainted wealth and managing their consciences. Poorna Jagannathan is back in her role as Lucky, who develops a crush on the casino magnate Max Sugar, played by the newly cast Fred Armisen. Andrew Rannells and Kumail Nanjiani are also joining the cast as Andrew Chadwater, a district attorney who wants to become the mayor, and Danyal, a defense attorney. Begins streaming Thursday on Hulu.
The friends in “Four Seasons” are continuing their annual tradition of taking a vacation together, but this season they are also grieving the loss of one of their friends. After Nick’s (Steve Carell) untimely death last season, the group will come together to process their grief and celebrate new milestones while exploring Italy, upstate New York and the Jersey Shore. Tina Fey, Will Forte, Colman Domingo, Erika Henningsen, Marco Calvani and Kerri Kenney-Silver are returning cast members. All eight episodes of the season will be released at the same time. Begins streaming Thursday on Netflix.
A space race and an unknown identity
As the fifth season of “For All Mankind” wraps up this week, the new series “Star City” expands the same universe, focusing on the space race story line, this time from the Soviet Union’s perspective. Behind the secretive Iron Curtain, the show follows cosmonauts, engineers and K.G.B. officers as they work to launch into orbit. Rhys Ifans stars as the program’s chief designer, and the character Irina Morozova from “For All Mankind” crosses over, this time played by Agnes O’Casey. Two episodes will air together, with the subsequent ones coming weekly. Begins streaming Friday on Apple TV.
In 2004, a man was found naked and injured behind a Burger King in rural Georgia. When he received help, he said that he had no recollection of who he was, so he adopted the pseudonym Benjaman Kyle. His memory loss was initially explained as a strange and rare type of dementia, and in 2015, through DNA testing, he found his family. But as the filmmakers behind the documentary “The Many Lives of Benjaman Kyle” started interviewing him, they found troubling inconsistencies in his story. Monday at 9 p.m. on HBO.
Soccer and tennis
During the 1970 World Cup, Brazil had overwhelming success, on top of winning the championship. The men’s national team won all 12 of its matches, and in a FIFA first, one of the players, Jairzinho, scored a goal in every match. Ahead of this year’s World Cup, which begins across North American in early June, a new mini-series is commemorating the landmark win. The fictional retelling “Brazil ’70: The Third Star” focuses on the players Pelé (played by Lucas Agrícola), Jairzinho (Gui Ferraz) and Tostão (Ravel Andrade), delving into the story of their on-field success as well as the political pressures they faced from the country’s military dictatorship. Rodrigo Santoro plays João Saldanha, the communist coach who was fired before the tournament, and Bruno Mazzeo rounds out the cast as Mário Zagallo, the coach who took over. Begins streaming Friday on Netflix.
And speaking of admired athletes, the tennis player Rafael Nadal, now 39 years old, is one of the most accomplished, with 22 Grand Slam championships under his belt. The four-part documentary series “Rafa” tracks his success, from age 3 to his 2024 retirement from the sport, through archival footage and interviews. It also looks at the pressure he has faced and how his body has managed the wear and tear of playing professional tennis for over two decades. Begins streaming Friday on Netflix.
