An ex-Republican insider relied on a handy Star Wars analogy to name the “Sith Lord” who he said helped turn Trump into who he is today.
“Donald Trump was always going to be a sociopath,” George Conway, the ex-husband of right-wing commentator Kellyanne Conway, said during an interview with Katie Couric.
“But Roy Cohn was like the sociopath teacher, right?” Conway went on. “He was the mentor, you know, kind of like the Sith Lord or the senior Sith Lord to the junior Sith Lord.”
Cohn is the mob lawyer and notorious political fixer who served as a model for Trump. Couric brought him up because she was asking Conway about Trump’s dishonesty, saying, “I feel like if you want to understand Donald Trump, you should understand Roy Cohn.”
Conway agreed. He explained that Trump “learned how to be absolutely dishonest and ruthless from Cohn,” and the president “just modeled himself after that.”
According to Couric, Cohn “used to say, ‘If you tell a lie enough times, people are going to start to believe you.’”
