What Are Your Evening Rituals? We Want to Know.

What Are Your Evening Rituals? We Want to Know.

Some nights before I fall asleep, my husband invites me over to his side of the bed so we can review the funny Instagram posts he’s saved for me during the week. We giggle at memes and videos of dogs wearing silly costumes, and revel in the nostalgia of ’90s alternative rock.

As a sleep reporter, I understand the potential issues that may result from screen use before bed — like staying up too late or coming across content that may lead to anxiety. But I don’t worry about breaking this hallowed sleep hygiene rule. The laughter and closeness with my husband relaxes me, and it’s a routine we both look forward to. (The research on blue light’s effects on sleep is murky, anyway.)

Most of us have little rituals or evening habits that signal that the day is done and that it’s time for rest. Some people meditate. Others listen to audiobooks or read physical books aloud to their partners. Some may complete elaborate skin care routines or do the dishes so that they wake up to a clean kitchen.

We want to know: What do you do right before bed?

We will read every submission and won’t publish any part of your response without your permission. And we won’t share your contact information outside The Times’s newsroom or use it for any reason other than to get in touch with you.
