‘Nice try!’ Apology from GOP senator’s son for antisemitic rant torn apart by onlookers

GOP senators just put Trump’s ballroom money in grave peril: report

William Paul, the son of Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), made headlines this week after he reportedly engaged in an obscene and heavily antisemitic rant against Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY), whom he mistakenly thought was Jewish.

Following the incident, William took to X to apologize and pledge to get help.

“Last night, I had too much to drink and said some things that don’t represent who I really am,” said William, who tagged Lawler and two reporters in his post. “I’m sorry and today I am seeking help for my drinking problem.”

His apology, however, was not terribly well-received, with commenters tearing into him.

“It’s good to get help for your drinking problem,” wrote Jewish-Iranian former congressional staffer Sia Kordestani. “Can you also do something about your Jew-hating problem? Visit Israel and see things for yourself instead being fed low IQ Podcastistan lies.”

“Mr. Paul, it sounds like these things represent exactly who you are,” wrote veteran and activist Charlotte Clymer. “You need to work on undoing the vile antisemitic propaganda that is rotting your brain. Plenty of folks get drunk; very few of them start blaming their problems on Jewish people.”

“Alcohol doesn’t just make you say all that. Nice try!” wrote political consultant Matt Dearing.

One figure who extended him the benefit of the doubt, however, was scandal-plagued former Rep. George Santos (R-NY), who himself lied to voters about being Jewish.

“I don’t know what you did or said… but I wish you well on your road to recovery…” wrote Santos. “No one is beyond redemption and alway remember the lord forgives you and will guide you through your journey of recovery.”
