Garish Met Gala garb and more: Letters to the Editor — May 10, 2026

Garish gala garb

Having been raised by a very fashion-conscious mother to admire the elegant and beautiful creations of Chanel, Dior and Armani, I cannot even describe the assault to my senses of the schmattas the so-called celebrities were attempting to wear (“A severe Met dressing-down,” Cindy Adams, May 6).

The Met Gala has become a clown show. The amount of effort and money that goes into this yearly event could be better spent, and the public could be spared the fashion faux pas of the rich and famous.

ICE at Disney

I’m curious: After ICE agents stormed Disney Magic cruise ships, did they then proceed to Disney headquarters and also arrest the people that hired them (“ICE nabs Disney ship staff,” May 7)?

This kind of reminds me of New York when the cops would haul in prostitutes and not the johns.

Scientology spree

A group of hoodlums attacked and vandalized a Scientology church in Times Square (“Scientolo-spree,” May 4).

When it was reported on the news, many of their faces were blocked out due to their age. These vandals are criminals no matter what age they are. They should be exposed and charged as adults. If not, charge their parents. Someone needs to be held accountable.

City Hall of shame

There’s no doubt that Rudy Giuliani belongs in the “city hall of fame,” and I, like many others, sent him prayers during his recent health battle (“Rudy belongs in City Hall of fame,” Michael Goodwin, May 6).

Mayor Mamdani, on the other hand, belongs in the city hall of shame, but even that’s too good for him.

Youthmaxxing

Americans’ lust for the fountain of youth is unabating; it seems we’ve grown tired of Botox, GLP-1 medications and butt lifts, and we’re on to the next craze of “looksmaxxing” and peptides (“Maxxing weight loss Rx,” May 7).

The impressionable youth — and adults — are being corrupted by the social media influencers and extremists who are vying for perfection. Vanity has taken a chokehold on our sanity.

Bye-bye, Spirit Air

The shutdown of Spirit Airlines after 34 years of operations is a sad loss (“Joe the Spirit-Killer,” Rich Lowry, Post Opinion, May 6).

It was the eighth-largest US airline in 2025 and offered incredibly cheap fares.

The Justice Department blocked a 2024 sale of Spirit to JetBlue — which would have avoided this collapse — claiming that it would reduce competition in violation of the Clayton Antitrust Act. Thanks to Joe Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland, there’s definitely less competition now.

Dems’ hypocrisy

The Dems brought gerrymandering to an art form, but now that the Republicans have started doing it, they whine like infants (“Ron OKs new Florida Congress map,” May 5).

It’s a shame both parties are so sleazy. But the Dems opened the door. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
