Insider says Trump brought ‘generational losses’ to GOP by ignoring warning: ‘We told him’

Republican strategist Rina Shah delivered a blunt indictment of the Trump administration’s economic stewardship on MS NOW, revealing that GOP insiders warned the president precisely where his policies would fail—only to be ignored.

“I’m unsurprised. It’s exactly in the direction that many of us have told him it would be in, which is really high numbers on disapproving, on cost of living and inflation. Those are the places in which he was elected to do better,” Shah said, underscoring that the administration’s current crisis is entirely predictable and avoidable.

Shah characterized the problem as fundamentally one of presidential control over messaging rather than actual policy achievement. “Oh, without a doubt. Because what voters wanted was a solution talk,” she explained when asked if this was a messaging problem.

The strategist criticized Trump for micromanaging communications while stifling his own advisors. “They have been muffled because the president is the speakerphone. He’s the one who always controls the messaging,” Shah stated. “We need to do an all of the above approach. We can walk and chew gum at the same time. Tell me about the economy while telling me your plans for handling geopolitical tension. You can do that, but they continue to bifurcate it all.”

Shah recounted her own experience fighting Trump’s tariff regime, revealing the administration’s obstinacy even in the face of legal defeat. “I was listed in the tariffs case that was successful at the Supreme Court. On the amicus brief. I lent my name with a dozen other Republicans to say, we think these tariffs. He doesn’t have the right to do that. Right. Would they do right after we won that case, they just came back and said, we’ll do it under some other obscure authority.”

Shah’s most damning critique centered on Trump’s refusal to delegate or accept advice. “This is the problem with the administration is that they cannot talk about solutions because the president is, again, controlling everything. This is a really, really bad precedent to set for the executive branch. You need other people to get in there and say, the American people are thirsty for ideas. Let’s give them some ideas.”

Host Eugene Daniels noted that, “The Republican party is just like, whatever Donald Trump says, we’ll go slowly but surely,” to which Shah replied, “It sets the stage for generational losses. And that makes me upset, not because I’m some party line holder.”

She further drew a stark line: “I am only a Republican because I care about limited government and we have a duopoly. So much for that. You’re showing me you don’t care about my values or the values of millions of other voters across the country.”
