After a gunman fought with security at the White House correspondents’ dinner Saturday, the White House said it will review security plans for future presidential events. Cole Tomas Allen, the suspect in the shooting, is set to make his first appearance in federal court in D.C. on Monday. In a message sent to family members Saturday night, the 31-year-old suspect called himself a “friendly federal assassin” and criticized Trump administration officials before allegedly charging through a screening checkpoint at the Washington Hilton, where the dinner was taking place. After receiving the letter, Allen’s brother contacted police in New London, Connecticut, according to a White House official who spoke on the condition of anonymity. One Secret Service officer was struck by a bullet during the attack but was protected by a bulletproof vest.
