Officials sought Sunday to determine the motive in the shooting that prompted the evacuation of President Donald Trump and other high-profile guests from the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner Saturday night. Officials said the suspect, identified as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, California, was in custody. They said he was armed with a shotgun, a handgun and knives when he charged through a security checkpoint toward the ballroom at the Washington Hilton where hundreds of journalists, politicians and celebrities were gathered for the dinner. Acting attorney general Todd Blanche said the suspect had traveled from his home outside Los Angeles to Chicago by train and then to D.C. during the last several days. He is not cooperating with the investigation, Blanche said.
