An author who has written about President Donald Trump for more than a decade flagged signs that the president is “starting to slow down” during a podcast interview on Wednesday.
Katy Tur, who covered Trump for MS NOW and wrote a book about covering his 2016 campaign called “Unbelievable,” discussed the signs that Trump is aging on a new episode of “The Daily Beast Podcast” with Joana Coles, the outlet’s chief content officer.
Tur revealed that Trump is watching less television than he did during his first administration. She recalled that people in the first administration would joke that Trump was working while he watched TV, but that doesn’t appear to be happening as much during the second term.
She added that Trump is also calling into his favorite shows less frequently.
“He is different than he was,” Tur said. “He doesn’t have the same amount of energy. He’s not as coherent as he used to be. He’s always been somewhat coherent, but it’s different now. He’s slower. His speech is slower. You can see him falling asleep sometimes, or appearing to fall and fall asleep in the Oval Office.”
Tur said she’s noticed Trump’s energy has decreased and his workload appears to have lessened compared to his first administration.
Questions about Trump’s age have been swirling since he took office. The 79-year-old president has been seen falling asleep during press conferences in the Oval Office, and has admitted to taking cognitive exams that have made experts wonder whether he is exhibiting signs of dementia.
