Trump brutally mocked on CNN over bizarre Gold Card sales claim: ‘Guy might be dishonest’

A couple of political pundits broke into laughter when they heard President Donald Trump claim that he sold $1.3 billion worth of gold cards, his program to let people into the country for a fee of $1 million.

“Obviously he sold one gold card for $1.3 billion,” political analyst Van Jonessaid while on CNN’s “Erin Burnett OutFront” on Thursday, sarcastically adding: “I don’t know why anybody thinks that this guy might be a dishonest person.”

Jones and conservative anti-Trump television host S.E. Cupp were on the show reacting to a clip of the president asking Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick how much money the gold card had raised.

Host Erin Burnett even got on the ribbing, mocking that Trump “actually at one point went so far as to say it would raise $1 trillion” and putting her pinky to the corner of her mouth to compare Trump to Dr. Evil, the comical nemesis of Austin Powers. She joked that “the buyer was Vladimir Putin” who shelled out the $1.3 billion for Trump’s gold card.

Cupp giggled too but made a more serious point.

“Underneath the silliness of this, it made me think about our standing in the world,” Cupp said. “Do people still want to come here? Are we as valuable as we think we are or as we once were? You can’t wave this magic ticket into the greatest country in the world and get a lot of takers anymore. So it actually made me a little sad.”

Jones agreed, saying that “literally, coming to America used to be a golden ticket” and said that more people are leaving the country than there are coming.

“Trump says, ‘pay me and you can come,’” Jones said. “And people go, ‘oh, well, never mind. We’ll stay.’ Yeah, that’s not good.”
