At about 11 p.m. officers responded to the 600 block of Kenyon Street for reported gunshots, Carroll said. They found a woman in an alley who had been shot. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Carroll said the woman was involved in a verbal argument in the alley with a man, who then shot her and fled.
Homicide detectives responded to the area, and they learned that the woman’s 2-year-old was unaccounted for, Carroll said.
Detectives have been searching for Royce since. An Amber Alert was issued to phones Wednesday morning.
Police asked anyone with information to call 911.
