Charlize Theron takes swipe at Timothée Chalamet over his ‘reckless’ ballet comments: ‘I hope I run into him’

Charlize Theron slammed Timothée Chalamet over his “reckless” comments about ballet and opera.

The “Monster” actress — who famously trained in ballet — told the New York Times in a new interview Saturday that dance was “probably one of the hardest things [she] ever did.”

“Dancers are superheroes. What they put their bodies through in complete silence,” she shared, to which the interviewer replied: “Sorry, Timothée Chalamet.”

“Oh, boy, I hope I run into him one day,” Theron, 50, shared.

“That was a very reckless comment on an art form, two art forms, that we need to lift up constantly because, yes, they do have a hard time,” she added.

“But in 10 years, A.I. is going to be able to do Timothée’s job, but it will not be able to replace a person on a stage dancing live. And we shouldn’t [expletive] on other art forms.”

The “Devil’s Advocate” star said dance taught her discipline, structure, hard work and how to be tough.

“It’s borderline abusive. There were several times that I had blood infections from blisters that just never healed. And you don’t get a day off,” she explained.

“I’m literally talking about bleeding through your shoes. And that’s something that you have to practice every single day, the mind-set of just, you don’t give up, there’s no other option, you keep going,” Theron concluded.

Page Six has reached out to Chalamet for comment but did not immediately hear back.

In February, Chalamet, 30, made headlines when he said he didn’t “want to be working in ballet or opera where it’s like, ‘Hey! Keep this thing alive, even though no one cares about this anymore.’”

“All respect to the ballet and opera people out there … I just lost 14 cents in viewership. I’m taking shots for no reason,” the “Dune” star said at a town hall event produced by Variety and CNN at the time.

Shortly after Chalamet’s statement went viral, several stars slammed the actor publicly, including ballet legend Misty Copeland, who said he “shouldn’t be comparing” his craft to other art forms.

“He wouldn’t be an actor and have the opportunities he has as a movie star if it weren’t for opera and ballet and their relevance in that medium,” the ballet dancer, 43, explained.

Legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg also took aim at the “Wonka” actor’s remarks.

“At the end of a really good movie experience, we are all united with a whole bunch of feelings that we walk into the daylight with, or into the nighttime with,” the “Jaws” director, 79, said during a panel at SXSW 2026.

“And there’s nothing like that. It happens in movies and in concerts. And it happens in ballet and opera, by the way,” Spielberg added.

“We want that to be sustained. We want that to go forever.”

Chalamet has not publicly commented on the backlash.
