Another shift at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center has come and gone—and with it, a slew of new patient problems, professional dilemmas, and interpersonal hang-ups for everyone’s favorite day shift staffers to attempt to work through.
The Season 2 finale of The Pitt ended on a bittersweet note, as the final hours before Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) planned to head out on his three-month motorcycle road trip sabbatical left us wondering just what kind of mental state we’ll find him in following the four-month time jump that’s set to take place between seasons. We also had to say goodbye to Dr. Mohan, as it’s been announced that Supriya Ganesh is exiting the show while Ayesha Harris has been promoted to series regular as senior night shift resident Dr. Parker Ellis.
On the other hand, we got to see Santos (Isa Briones) and Mel (Taylor Dearden) perform a rousing rendition of Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know” during a much-needed night out at karaoke, so we can’t be too upset.
Here are a few of our way-too-early predictions for Season 3, which is currently anticipated to premiere in January 2027 and has already been teased as “explosive.”
There will be a Thanksgiving-related injury
A deep-fried turkey fire? A drunken football-game brawl? A Turkey Trot training fail? Despite the fact that Wyle has said Season 3 will take place in “pre-Thanksgiving” November, it’s hard not to think about the show finding a way to incorporate a holiday-inspired accident, especially after watching 15 hours’ worth of July 4 injuries parade through the ER. Maybe we’ll even get a patient who comes in with a whole raw turkey stuck on their head à la Joey in that one episode of Friends.
Tensions will come to a head between Robby and Al-Hashimi
The relationship between Dr. Robby and Dr. Al-Hashimi is a tricky one. While they got off to a rocky start in Season 2, it seemed like they eventually gained mutual respect for one another over the course of Robby’s final pre-sabbatical shift—even as their approaches to medicine continued to clash. But after Baran revealed the truth about her seizure disorder to Robby, he warned her that he would tell the hospital higher-ups about her impairment unless she did so first. This all felt a bit “rules for thee but not for me,” considering that Robby has been suffering from extreme psychological distress that directly threatens his ability to function as a doctor and a leader upon whom many in the ER depend. The two senior attendings both need help, even if they’re not willing to admit it. Four months down the road, we’d wager there’s still going to be some lingering friction to address between them.
The flu will sweep through the PTMC ranks
Given the shift to colder weather and Wyle saying the thesis of Season 3 is that “doctors benefit from being patients,” we’re willing to bet a seasonal illness like the flu may incapacitate several members of the Pitt staff over the course of their shift, and lead to some of our favorite emergency docs getting a taste of their own medicine (that is, bedside manner). However, at least in Robby’s case, let’s hope the doctors becoming patients storyline translates to him spending some time talking to a mental health professional.
Javadi will emerge as a rising emergency psychiatry star
Speaking of mental health professionals, now that Javadi is leaning toward specializing in emergency psychiatry, we foresee the Pitt’s resident student doctor wunderkind thriving as she continues to cement an identity outside of her family connections. Plus, she’s already established a significant following of young people willing to turn to her for medical advice through her online persona as TikTok influencer “Dr. J.”
Langdon will find a way to win some points back with Santos
Santos may have wanted no part of it when Langdon tried to apologize to her this season. But, at some point, the pair is either going to have to work things out or prepare for all-out war. We’re choosing to believe Season 3 will see Langdon find a way to take accountability for the damage he did to Santos’ career in a way that will earn at least a few degrees of respect back from her.
