President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Thursday to personally address Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militant group designated as a terrorist organization by the United States, asking the group to “act nicely” during what he called “an important period of time.”
“I hope Hezbollah acts nicely and well during this important period of time,” Trump wrote. “It will be a GREAT moment for them if they do. No more killing. Must finally have PEACE!”
Trump did not specify what he meant by “important period of time,” nor did he elaborate on what consequences Hezbollah may face for not complying with his request for good behavior.
The message came as the Trump administration continues military operations against Iran, which has long served as Hezbollah’s primary state sponsor and financier. The U.S. military deposed Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in January after he refused to comply with administration demands.
The U.S. and Israel launched coordinated strikes against Iran on Feb. 28, killing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and targeting nuclear and military infrastructure. A fragile two-week ceasefire took effect April 8, brokered by Pakistan, though both sides have since violated it. A U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports went into effect this week after peace talks collapsed. Hezbollah, Iran’s Lebanon-based proxy, has been actively engaged throughout the conflict.
