Whiny protesters boycott beloved Latino-owned California taco chain over CEO’s support for Trump

Woke activists are calling for a boycott of a beloved San Diego-born taco chain over its CEO’s support of President Trump.

Roberto’s Taco Shop — which has locations 80 locations across California, Nevada and Texas — came under fire after a TikTok user accused CEO Reynaldo Robledo of supporting the MAGA movement.

The video, posted by a user who says she exposes “Latino MAGA businesses,”points to social media activity from accounts in Robledo’s name, including Facebook posts.

The clip quickly gained tons of traction, pulling in nearly 80,000 views and sparking hundreds of comments. The missive may have led to a Facebook page tied to Robledo being wiped, according to SFGate.

“Did this CEO forget that all of his restaurants are based on Mexican dishes, who wouldn’t have made it here without the immigrants that are currently being affected by the current administration that you are supporting?” the user asks.

In 2020, Robledo attended a “Latinos for Trump” roundtable and praised the president.

“We love the work you’re doing. We love what you’ve done for us,” he told Trump, adding it was their third meeting.

Robledo’s parents opened the original Roberto’s Taco Shop in San Diego in 1964 after running a tortilla factory. It would grow into one of the region’s most recognizable taco chains, often credited with creating the California burrito.

The green and red salsas are quite popular.

While the brand is deeply rooted in the Golden State, it has expanded to dozens of franchise locations in Nevada, particularly in Las Vegas and Reno, as well as in Texas.

Calls for a boycott have spread beyond TikTok.

A Facebook group, A Strong Nevada, posted: “Did you know that Reynaldo Robledo, the CEO of Roberto’s Taco Shop is a huge MAGA supporter and supports ICE! Looks like you won’t be getting our business anymore!”

Amid the uproar, the company’s Nevada arm issued a statement on Instagram emphasizing that individual franchise owners operate independently.

“Roberto’s Taco Shop is proud to be a Latino-owned and operated franchise that serves diverse communities across Nevada,” the statement read. “While our CEO may hold personal political beliefs, it is important to note that each of our 49 franchisees operate their stores independently.”

“The day-to-day operations and livelihoods of our 600 team members reflect the hard work, values, and cultural heritage of families, many of whom are Latino immigrants, who are dedicated to serving their local communities,” it added. Online reactions remain split. “Noooooooooo not my drunk food,” one TikTok user wrote, while another said, “Was going to try the one close by. Won’t due to being enlightened. Will continue to support my small local spot. Thanks.”

Others urged restraint, pointing to the franchise model.

“It’s a franchise. You’re spreading misinformation. I have a friend whose family invested in this franchise that do not have those beliefs. Just because the CEO has certain thoughts, it shouldn’t affect the family who invested in the franchise,” one commenter wrote.

And not all the responses were negative. “I knew there was a reason why I love Roberto’s,” one Facebook user posted.

The companydid not respond to The California Post’s request for comment before publication.
