A former federal prosecutor ripped Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche on Thursday for comments he made about President Donald Trump.
During a recent press conference, Blanche told reporters that he “loved” working for Trump and that it would be an honor to serve the administration as attorney general or any other position Trump puts Blanche in. However, it was a comment he made at the end of his answer that stuck in the mind of Glenn Kirschner, a former deputy U.S. Attorney in Washington, D.C.
“If he chooses to nominate me, that’s an honor. If he chooses to nominate somebody else and I go back to being the [Deputy Attorney General], that’s an honor,” Blanche said. “If he chooses to nominate somebody else and asks me to go do something else, I will say, ‘Thank you very much. I love you, sir.’ So, I don’t have any goals or aspirations beyond that.”
Kirschner reacted to Blanche’s comments in a new YouTube video. He described Blanche as the “poster child of weakness.”
“After seeing that weak, pathetic, subservient performance by the person who is supposed to be the nation’s top law enforcement official, do you have any confidence that if there’s evidence that Donald Trump’s cabinet officials, for example, are involved in criminal conduct, do you really believe … Todd Blanche, who just professed his love for Donald Trump, will fully, fairly, aggressively, and apolitically investigate suspected crimes by Trump’s cabinet officials?” Kirschner asked.
“What about Trump’s friends, close associates, or family members? In the event there’s any evidence that any of those folks are engaged in potentially criminal conduct, do you really think Todd Blanche is up to the task of investigating that suspected criminal activity?” he said.
