Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Dan Caine intervened, preventing President Donald Trump from publicly disclosing classified information about troop numbers deployed in a successful rescue mission of two U.S. airmen shot down over Iran on Friday.
During a press conference, Trump admitted some military advisers opposed the operation, then described the mission’s scale, and discussing helicopter casualties.
When Trump asked Caine how many troops were deployed, Caine advised keeping the number classified.
Trump initially agreed to keep it secret but then revealed “hundreds, and hundreds of these people” were involved.
Trump characterized the entire operation as heavily militarized and claimed it was unprecedented in scale. He later made a dismissive comment about Caine’s appearance, calling him “central casting.”
