How to sum up the pageantry on display at the annual Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival in New York City? “I could never tire of this,” Landon Nordeman, a veteran photographer who has been shooting the event for over 20 years, said on Sunday. He had just snapped a close-up portrait of a woman in a pink floral dress and matching hair.
Indeed, the parade is a dream for anyone looking to take photos of cute and interesting people wearing colorful get-ups and an impressive array of Easter-themed hats — some professionally made by milliners, others the work of the crafty and creative D.I.Y. crowd. Even the ominous overcast skies and threat of heavy rain couldn’t keep this year’s party at bay, and I was impressed by how few umbrellas and parkas there were just before the clouds eventually broke. The vibes on Fifth Avenue were just too good to let a little bit of bad weather get in the way.
