Key admin official’s job is on the ropes as Trump gripes she helped undercut him: report

President Donald Trump may be getting ready to fire yet another high-ranking administration official: his Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard.

According to The Guardian, the anger stems from Gabbard’s move to protect Joe Kent, the controversial white supremacist-allied former National Counterterrorism Center chief, who embarrassed the Trump administration’s rationale for attacking Iran when he resigned in protest of the war.

“It is not clear that Trump will actually fire Gabbard over the episode. Currently, there is no standout candidate to take the job, and advisers have cautioned that creating a high-profile vacancy before a successor is ready could cause unhelpful political distractions,” said the report. “But Trump’s discussions marks an ominous development for Gabbard, given the president tends to poll his advisers when he starts to seriously consider whether a personnel change is necessary. The two people spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations.”

According to the report, when asked by reporters whether he has confidence in Gabbard’s performance, Trump replied, “I mean, she’s a little bit different in her thought process than me, but that doesn’t make somebody not available to serve.”

This comes weeks after Trump instituted one of the first major shakeups of his second term Cabinet, firing Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem from her role after months of bad publicity and her move to blame him for a $200 million taxpayer-funded ad campaign promoting herself.

He is also reportedly considering removing Attorney General Pam Bondi, whom he has soured on ever since her mishandling of the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking case review has dragged the administration into a protracted controversy with Trump’s own base.
