Trump Unveils Vision for Presidential Library, Complete With Golden Escalator

A skyscraper with a red, white and blue spire. A golden escalator. Airplanes, including what appears to be Air Force One, displayed in the lobby.

President Trump unveiled a nearly two-minute video rendering, which appeared to include elements generated by artificial intelligence, depicting his future presidential library in downtown Miami on Monday evening. It shows “TRUMP” emblazoned in gold letters across the front of the building above an American flag that in one scene appears to have 56 stars. Inside, visitors are surrounded by the gilded Mar-a-Lago style that now adorns much of the White House.

On the windows outside of the skyscraper, digital screens appear to replay Mr. Trump’s speeches. A golden arch bearing the presidential seal outlines the entrance. Inside, visitors walk beneath what appears to be Air Force One near the entrance. An auditorium features a massive golden statue onstage of Mr. Trump stretching his fist nearly to the ceiling.

The video also appears to show replicas of the White House Rose Garden, which Mr. Trump recently renovated, and his planned $400 million, 90,000-square-foot ballroom.

“The Trump Presidential Library will be one of the most magnificent buildings in the world,” said Davis Ingle, a White House spokesman.

He referred questions about costs and whether video renderings amounted to final designs to a nonprofit organization raising money for the library, which did not return requests for comment.

Willy A. Bermello, a principal at the Miami-based architecture firm that has been chosen to design the building, said in a statement that it would be the tallest presidential library in the United States.

He said the library would be “both an economic stimulus to our South Florida business community and an element of pride and distinction to all who call Miami home.”

In September, Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida and other top elected Republican state officials donated a prime state-owned property in downtown Miami to the nonprofit raising money for the library.

The 2.63-acre property, currently a parking lot facing Biscayne Bay, is estimated to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Mr. Trump’s son Eric, who incorporated the library nonprofit and scouted sites for the library, celebrated the renderings on social media on Monday night.

“This landmark on the water in Miami, Florida will stand as a lasting testament to an amazing man, an amazing developer, and the greatest President our Nation has ever known,” he wrote.

Florida officials were able to hand over the property to those working on the Trump library after the trustees of Miami Dade College voted to convey the property to the state at the DeSantis administration’s request.

Under the terms of the transaction, only certain parts of the property would be required to house a presidential library, museum or center. This would leave room for a hotel, condominium or other for-profit development. Construction would have to begin within five years.

A lawsuit against the transfer argued that it violated a state law requiring a certain amount of transparency in government. Other opponents of the deal have questioned why the trustees of a taxpayer-supported college would donate land appraised at more than $67 million but believed to have a much higher market value, without any compensation.
