Political strategist James Carville sounded an urgent alarm about the New Hampshire Senate race, revealing that Democratic candidate Chris Pappas and Republican challenger John Sununu are now tied in the latest polling.
Carville characterized the competitive race as a critical moment for Democrats’ Senate control prospects. “This TIED poll is a jump ball in this Senate race. Whoever grabs it first gets a huge advantage,” Carville wrote, emphasizing the stakes involved.
The veteran operative framed the contest as a fundamental choice between competing visions. “You’ve got Chris Pappas, a tried and true fighter for working families, vs. a guy who’s promised to be a yes-man for Donald Trump and his TRILLIONAIRE class. And now they’re tied in the polls,” Carville stated.
Carville stressed the urgency of the moment, warning that inaction could prove costly a noting that the “stakes are astronomical.”
“If we don’t rally around Chris right now, we could LOSE this Senate race,” he cautioned, highlighting that the contest “is closer than NC, GA, AND ME.”
The 45-44 polling spread indicates an extraordinarily tight race that will likely see massive spending. “In a race that will see INSANE amounts of spending (we’re talking hundreds of millions of dollars here), we need every win we can get,” Carville wrote.
The strategist’s alarm reflects growing Democratic concerns about Senate vulnerability heading into the 2026 midterms, particularly in states where Trump made significant gains during the 2024 election.
Carville added, “45-44. That’s a damn close race.”
