Savannah Guthrie sobs over possibility she’s at fault for mom Nancy’s kidnapping: ‘I’m so sorry, mommy’

Savannah Guthrie believes she is to blame for her mother, Nancy Guthrie, being kidnapped in February.

During her first TV interview since the 84-year-old went missing last month, Savannah sobbed as she talked about the reality of realizing that her fame may have had something to do with the tragic crime.

“My siblings are so amazing — my brother [Camron Guthrie], he spent his career in the military and worked in intelligence and is a fighter pilot and is brilliant and he saw very clearly right away what this was and even on the phone, when we called him, he knew and he said, ‘I think she’s been kidnapped for ransom,’ and I said, ‘What?!’” Savannah, 54, recalled to Hoda Kotb during her “Today” interview.

“Like, how dumb could I be? I didn’t want to believe it but do you think because of me?’ And he said, ‘I’m sorry, sweetie, but yeah, maybe,’” she shared.

“But I knew that — I hope not, we still don’t know. We don’t know anything, so I don’t know that it’s because she’s my mom and somebody thought, ‘Oh, that lady has money, we can make a quick buck,’ that would make sense but we don’t know.”

Savannah said the thought of it being her fault was “too much to bear.”

“That it’s because of me and I just want to say, I’m so sorry, mommy,” she said.

“I’m so sorry. I’m sorry to my sister [Annie Guthrie] and my brother, and my kids and my nephew and Tommy, my brother-in-law, I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry if it’s me, I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry.”

Nancy was first reported missing from her Tucson home on Feb. 1.

During the investigation into her disappearance, authorities found a trail of blood on Nancy’s front porch.

Last month, the FBI released horrifying home security camera photos of an armed and masked person outside of Nancy’s door the night she disappeared.

In the videos and photos, the man stood on Nancy’s front porch, wearing gloves, as he tampered with her door camera.

Several people were detained amid this investigation, but they were not charged for Nancy’s disappearance after they were proven not to be involved.

Last month, Savannah revealed that she and her family accepted that Nancy may be dead, as they offered $1 million for her “miracle” return.
