Alleged drunk driver extradited from Poland to face charges in fatal 2022 crash on Long Island

An accused drunk driver charged with killing a 60-year-old Long Island woman in a 2022 head-on crash was hit with manslaughter charges after being extradited from his native Poland, prosecutors said.

Adam Chrzanowski, 45, fled to Poland in 2024 after getting hit with a 16-county indictment in the Nassau County wreck that killed Elizabeth Post and injured others — but will now have to face justice, Suffolk County prosecutors said in a release.

“This defendant’s alleged dangerous and deadly choice to drive drunk caused the death of Elizabeth Post, who was simply headed home after visiting her grandchild,” District Attorney Ray Tierney said. “When it was finally time to face the charges for his actions, he allegedly fled the country.”

Chrzanowski was allegedly behind the wheel of a 2021 Toyota Rav 4 on Route 25 in Cutchogue when cops said he tried to pass another vehicle and smashed head-on into a 2019 Nissan Rouge.

Post, who was a passenger in the Nissan, died as a result of her injuries six months later, while the driver of the vehicle suffered a host of injuries, including spine and rib fractures.

In December 2022, Chrzanowski was indicted on manslaughter, vehicular assault, drunk driving and a series of other charges — but dodged the law when he boarded a flight to Poland on March 10, 2024.

That’s where he was busted by agents from the Department of Justice and the US Marshal Service, who hauled him back to Long Island. He was arraigned on the indictment on Monday, officials said.

Suffolk County Court Judge Bryan Browns ordered the fugitive held without bail pending his next scheduled court appearance on April 18, prosecutors said.
