Krishnamoorthi Has a Huge Ad Spending Advantage

Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi had the clear financial edge in the Democratic Senate primary in Illinois over his two main competitors, Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton and Representative Robin Kelly.

Mr. Krishnamoorthi brought in just over $30 million to his Senate campaign account between May 2025 and the end of February, including about $19 million that he transferred from his House campaign account, according to filings with the Federal Election Commission.

He has not only raised the most money, by far, in his race, but he has also raised more than nearly every other Senate candidate nationwide. Only Senator Jon Ossoff, Democrat of Georgia, has raised more, with nearly $64 million.

Ms. Stratton, who has mounted an increasingly competitive challenge to Mr. Krishnamoorthi, raised about $4 million to her campaign account, and Ms. Kelly raised about $3 million.

The fund-raising advantage in Illinois is most apparent in ad spending, with Mr. Krishnamoorthi having put about $29 million toward television and digital advertisements through Sunday, according to the media tracking firm AdImpact.

He also received a boost from the cryptocurrency industry. Its main political group, Fairshake, has spent about $9 million through Sunday on ads for Ms. Kelly and against Ms. Stratton in an effort to support Mr. Krishnamoorthi. Another political group aligned with Mr. Krishnamoorthi, the Indian American Impact Fund, had spent nearly a quarter of a million dollars on ads in the race through Sunday. If he wins, Mr. Krishnamoorthi would become only the second Indian American senator.

All in, more than two-thirds of the more than $56 million in ad spending in the Illinois Senate primary has benefited Mr. Krishnamoorthi. Ad spending for Ms. Stratton has totaled about $16 million, mostly from Illinois Future PAC, a political group that has received several million dollars from Gov. JB Pritzker of Illinois.
