Shock poll shows majority of LA voters balk at supporting Karen Bass

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass appears to be heading into the thick of her re-election campaign on shaky ground.

A new poll from Emerson College Polling/Inside California Politics shows Bass leading a crowded field of potential challengers with just 20% support, while a majority of voters — 51% — say they remain undecided.

The numbers suggest the race for City Hall could be wide open heading into the June primary and likely November runoff election.

The poll shows Bass’s standing with voters is weak, with just 24% of Angelenos saying they approve of the job she’ is ‘s doing as mayor, while 47% say they disapprove.

Despite the incumbent’s low approval numbers, none of her challengers have yet emerged as a clear alternative.

The poll found former reality TV star Spencer Pratt in second with 10% support, followed closely by LA City Councilmember Nithya Raman at 9%. Other candidates trail in the low single digits.

With more than half of voters still pondering, the race could shift dramatically as campaigning intensifies.

The survey also tested California’s 2026 governor’s race, where Rep. Eric Swalwell currently leads the crowded primary field with 17% support. Conservative commentator Steve Hiltonfollowed at 13%, while businessman Tom Steyer and Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco each received about 11%.

Rep. Katie Porter drew 8% in the early test, while roughly a quarter of voters say they are still considering all options.

Because of the state’s election system advances the top two finishers regardless of party, the fractured field could produce a range of possible general election matchups.
