Two men fire gun toward U.S. Consulate in Toronto, police say

Canadian police are investigating an incident where two people fired multiple rounds of gunshots toward the outside of the U.S. Consulate in Toronto, authorities said. There were no injuries reported.

There is witness evidence showing that a white Honda CR-V turned and stopped in front of the consulate, police said. There, two men emerged from the vehicle, discharged multiple rounds of a firearm, probably a handgun, at the front of the building, then got back into the vehicle and drove southbound, Police Service Deputy Chief Frank Barredo said at a news conference.

Police received report of gunfire shorts in the area consulate at 5:29 a.m., but the shots could have been fired as much as an hour earlier, Barredo said.

At the site, they found evidence of shell casings and damage to the building, including to glass and the consulate’s door, police said. There were people inside the building at no time, but nobody was injured as the consulate was “highly secured” and “highly fortified.”

The State Department and Canadian police did not respond immediately to requests for comment.

An image of the suspect vehicle has been released.
