Sarah J. Maas, the author of the best-selling romantasy series “A Court of Thorns and Roses,” said on Wednesday that two new books in the saga would be released in October and next January, more than five years after the latest entry.
Near the end of a nearly two-hour-long live broadcast of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Ms. Maas announced that the sixth book would be released on Oct. 27, 2026, and the seventh on Jan. 12, 2027. She shared the dates near the end of a wide-ranging interview that covered sexuality, pregnancy and writing female characters with the host, Alex Cooper, with more than 166,000 people watching.
“It took me a while to find the right story and find the right head space,” she said. “What poured out of me was this, and it poured out of me very quickly.”
Ms. Maas did not share the titles or cover art for the books, but acknowledged that it had been “a long time coming.”
She declined to share whose point of view the books would be told from, but she said her choice of narrator surprised her.
“The story that was ready to come out of me was big,” she said.
Her literary agent and publicist did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Wednesday. Her publisher, Bloomsbury Publishing, confirmed the release dates and said “romance, danger and intrigue” would await fans.
The “Court of Thorns and Roses” series, which began in 2015, became a megahit thanks to #BookTok, a corner of TikTok that gained popularity in the early days of the pandemic and has since become a sustained and powerful force in the publishing world.
Readers have devoured the story of Feyre Archeron, the series’s protagonist, and her 500-year-old “mate,” a mysterious faerie, across five novels. Many have eagerly awaited a new addition to the series since its most recent title, “A Court of Silver Flames,” was released in 2021.
Ms. Maas set social media ablaze when she teased the next installment for her characters in an Instagram post in July 2025, a video that, in part, showed her closing a notebook with “ACOTAR 6,” or “A Court of Thorns and Roses 6,” written on the front.
She captioned the post, “First drafts DONE.”
The post “quite literally lit the internet on fire,” Ms. Cooper said during the interview.
The five-year gap between “A Court of Silver Flames” and the books announced on Wednesday is the longest between Ms. Maas’s releases in the series.
Ms. Maas’s three series — “Throne of Glass,” which has eight books; “Crescent City,” which has three books; and “A Court of Thorns and Roses” — have sold more than 70 million copies in English worldwide, according to her website.
“A Court of Thorns and Roses,” in particular, has fueled a boom in the romantasy genre, a subgenre that combines fantasy and romance.
