Satellite imagery analyzed by The New York Times shows attacks on the Iranian naval base in Bandar Abbas. Smoke billows from at least four military ships that have burned for more than 24 hours, according to images released on Monday. No notable salvaging efforts are visible.
A Sunday morning image included two burning frigates, one of them in a dry dock. Dense smoke comes from more warships and a forward base ship, which is one of Iran’s largest military vessels.
Hours before the United States and Israel began attacking Iran on Saturday, a naval analyst pointed out that the Iranian navy was not dispersing or protecting its ships. Some of those very ships are now on fire.
