Arkansas voters will head to the polls on Tuesday to choose major-party nominees for the U.S. Senate and for governor. They will also make choices in nonpartisan general elections for some local offices and in annual school elections. Here’s what to know before you head to the polls.
Where do I go to vote?
You can find your designated polling site by visiting the secretary of state’s VoterView portal and entering your address. You can also confirm that you’re registered to vote in the portal.
When are polls open?
Polls will be open on Tuesday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. local time (8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Eastern).
Is it too late to vote by mail?
The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot has passed. But if you have already applied and received one, you can still send it to your county clerk’s office up until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
And there is still time to vote early in person, generally at the county clerk’s office. Early voting will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Monday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can read more about mail and early voting here.
Who is allowed at polling stations? Could ICE show up?
The Department of Homeland Security, which operates Immigration and Customs Enforcement, told election officials that immigration agents will not be stationed at polling sites during the midterm elections.
That said, if you feel intimidated by anyone at your polling location or someone is hindering your ability to cast your ballot, you should ask an election official for help.
What if I’m in line when polls close?
You will be able to vote if you’re in line when polls close.
Do I need identification?
Yes, you need a government-issued ID. If you don’t have one, speak with an election official at your polling location about filling out a provisional ballot and a form explaining why you are unable to show ID. Read more here.
If you have an ID but did not bring it to the polls, you will have another chance to bring your ID to your county elections board office by noon on the Monday following the election.
Do I need to be registered with a party to participate?
To participate in the Democratic primary, you can be registered with the Democratic or Republican parties, or be unaffiliated.
But note that this year, only registered Republican voters or unaffiliated voters can vote in the Republican primary. If you are a registered Democrat, you won’t be able to participate.
How do I confirm my vote after it’s been cast?
You can check the status of your ballot in the VoterView portal, or contact your county clerk’s office. Find the contact information for all of Arkansas’s county clerks’ offices here.
What is the likelihood of a runoff? And if there is one, when will it be?
It’s hard to say for sure. But if there is one, it would be held on March 31.
