Late Night Lampoons Trump’s State of the Union Ratings

Welcome to Late Night Roundup, a rundown of the previous night’s highlights that lets you sleep — and lets us get paid to watch comedy. Here are the 50 best movies on Netflix right now.

What a Drag

The Nielsen ratings from President Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday indicated that viewership was down by 11 percent from last year.

Stephen Colbert referred to the 107-minute-long speech as “Trump’s talk-a-thon” on Thursday’s “Late Show.”

“Donald Trump is really dragging down broadcast television. I mean, if I were CBS, I’d cancel him.” — STEPHEN COLBERT

“But you know, linear television is doomed, and everyone’s ratings are going down, right? I’m sorry, what’s that? Our ratings were up 7 percent? Over the same speech last year? So last year’s and this year’s, I’m up 7 percent? Wow. Holy cow. You know what I think was going on? People may not like watching Trump, but they do like watching me not like watching Trump.” — STEPHEN COLBERT

“Now, preliminary viewership for Trump’s speech is coming in around 32.6 million. Compare that to the Super Bowl, which got over four times as much, OK? I think Trump could’ve saved the whole thing with a blockbuster halftime show, featuring Bad Bernie.” — STEPHEN COLBERT

“Let’s just say that Trump’s ratings went from JD Vance to Marco Rubio.” — JIMMY FALLON

The Punchiest Punchlines (Oversight Is Right Edition)

“Today, the House Oversight Committee, led by Kentucky Republican Jim ‘Gomer’ Comer, finally have their man, and that man is Hillary Clinton.” — JIMMY KIMMEL

“Of all the people mixed up in this thing — Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Howard Lutnick — they drag Hillary Clinton out of the woods to testify under oath, even though there is no evidence that Hillary Clinton has ever met Jeffrey Epstein. But why not harass the woman while you have the chance?” — JIMMY KIMMEL

“She never even met Jeffrey Epstein. And yet, they kept her there and questioned her for more than six hours today. That makes sense. Hey, while you’re at it, why not depose Socks, the Clinton cat? Find out what he — oh, Socks is dead? Depose him anyway!” — JIMMY KIMMEL

“So Bill Clinton will testify tomorrow. The Clintons insisted that their testimony be conducted openly, live, on-camera for the public to see, but Republicans on the committee did not want that and refused because, you know, they’re transparent.” — JIMMY KIMMEL

“Yes, we must hold these former presidents accountable. I mean, who knows what kind of former damage these former presidents could do with their former fingers on the former nuclear button?” — DESI LYDIC

The Bits Worth Watching

Jimmy Fallon took his time introducing Marcus Mumford in the Rock & Roll Minute segment on Thursday’s “Tonight Show.”
