Ryan Gosling stepped behind the podium on “Jeopardy!” for a viral moment that has users across social media questioning the meaning of “IDK.”
In the clip, Gosling is in the lead over the other two contestants with the Final Jeopardy question looming. Host Ken Jennings delivers the question:

“This specific type of injury has made news at least since 1967 when it happened to Red Sox star Jim Lonborg.”
Gosling looks confused, unaware of the answer. He ultimately writes down “What is IDK?” and then wrote a touching message to his wife, actress Eva Mendes. “I [heart] Eva.”

Another contestant correctly answered “ACL” injury which put him in the lead, meaning Gosling needed a “Hail Mary” to steal the win.
Jennings delivered the the punchline with the timing of a seasoned closer: “‘IDK’ could also mean “internal derangement of the knee,” the very diagnosis that derailed Lonborg after his 22-win Cy Young season in 1967. A torn ACL from a skiing accident — back when surgeons treated knee ligaments like unsolved mysteries — altered the trajectory of a career that still spanned 15 seasons and earned him a Red Sox Hall of Fame nod.

The hilarious clip immediately made the rounds on social media, but we’re here to tell you that the video is just another viral marketing stunt for Gosling’s new movie “Project Hail Mary.”
Fresh off the heels of Timothee Chalamet’s viral marketing campaign for the movie “Marty Supreme,” Gosling has been one-upping his competition with several viral marketing videos.

During the Super Bowl, Gosling uncorked a football through the infamous Randy’s Donuts landmark in Inglewood.

Call it corny. Call it calculated. In a media landscape drowning in recycled trailers, Gosling threw a “Hail Mary” — and this time, the pass connected.
