The timing of Kash Patel’s decision to fire at least ten FBI agents, who were notable for their counterintelligence expertise, had little to do with their previous history investigating Donald Trump and more to do with the embattled FBI director attempting to get critical headlines about him to go away.
That is according to MS NOW’s Ken Dilanian, who reported on Thursday, that there is renewed grumbling at FBI headquarters about Patel who recently embarrassed the agency with his antics at the Winter Olympics where he was filmed partying with the US hockey team.
On Wednesday it was reported that Patel ordered the purge after it was revealed the FBI had subpoenaed records of phone calls made by himself and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, when they were still both private citizens, as part of special counsel Jack Smith’s probe into Trump.
According to Dilanian, “These firings are causing a lot of outrage among the current and former FBI officials we’re talking to, because they say that these agents and support staffers were simply doing their job,” adding, “And it’s a lot of people I’m talking to believe it’s not an accident that this is happening, as FBI director Kash Patel is under scrutiny over his use of the FBI jet and his attendance at the Olympics, where he was caught on video chugging a beer in the locker room.”
He continued, “A lot of people believe this was an effort to distract attention from that and to do what Donald Trump wants, which is to get rid of everybody at the FBI and Justice Department who worked on the criminal investigations that resulted in indictments of Donald Trump.”
