‘Married to Medicine’ star Dr. Mimi Sanders gets real about psychoanalyzing her castmates

Dr. Mimi Sanders is no longer just watching from the sidelines.

In a new interview with Page Six’s “Virtual Reali-Tea,” the “Married to Medicine” psychiatrist admitted that while she was merely observing the drama last year, this season she is fully “in the mess.”

From diagnosing the cast’s communication breakdowns to offering updates on her family life, here are the biggest takeaways from Dr. Mimi’s candid sit-down.

While Dr. Mimi jokingly clarified that she isn’t officially psychoanalyzing her castmates because “that costs money,” she isn’t afraid to use her professional background to “call out behaviors.”

During the recent cast trip hosted by Dr. Contessa Metcalfe — which Dr. Mimi praised as “top tier” despite some lingering questions about Dr. Contessa’s fashion choices — the latter took it upon herself to facilitate conversations when tensions ran high.

“I was holding group sessions and making sure people were having good facilitated conversations,” Dr. Mimi explained, noting that she stepped in when she realized not everyone had intentions to resolve their issues.

Dr. Mimi also offered a sharp analysis of Toya Bush-Harris, suggesting that Toya appears to “thrive” when people are in conflict. According to Dr. Mimi, Toya’s habit of inserting herself into the friction between Dr. Heavenly Kimes and Dr. Simone Whitmore stems from insecurity.

“I think that Heavenly perhaps has hurt her in a way that she has not healed from,” Mimi theorized. She suggested that Toya feels safer when Dr. Simone and Dr. Heavenly are beefing because “if Simone and Heavenly get together… where am I going to go? I’mma be by myself.”

Dr. Mimi’s professional prescription for Toya’s healing was blunt: “Stop getting in other people’s business… just mind your own business. You got a lot of stuff going on in your home, mind it.”

Despite the drama, Dr. Mimi was pleased when Dr. Heavenly crashed the trip, describing the dentist as a “little auntie” who, while sometimes inappropriate, is genuinely funny.

Addressing the “he said, she said” nature of the physical altercation allegations between Dr. Heavenly and Dr. Simone, Dr. Mimi attributed the confusion to the “emotionally charged” nature of the argument.

“When you are emotionally charged, you’re not going to remember everything,” Dr. Mimi noted, pointing out that the footage revealed that “both touched each other” during the heated moment.

On a personal note, Dr. Mimi lit up when discussing her home life. She praised her husband, Steve Sanders, for being a supportive partner who understands the emotional toll of her profession. She also shared a heartwarming update on her young son, Stevie.

“Stevie is doing so good,” she shared, revealing he is hitting new speech milestones thanks to therapy. She added that viewers have thanked her for showcasing the reality of raising a special needs child, noting, “You have to know that you’re no longer the smartest person in the household… because of his gifts.”

Looking ahead to the Season 12 reunion, Dr. Mimi says she is keeping her “head on a swivel” but refuses to shrink back. “Some people don’t like when confidence walks in the room,” she warned. “And that’s just what you’re going to get… you better deal with it.”

“Married to Medicine” airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo with new episodes available to stream the next day on Peacock.
