The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office announced on Saturday that it’s launched an investigation into Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) after multiple women have accused the gubernatorial candidate of sexual misconduct, and in one instance, sexual assault, CNN reported.
“We urge survivors and anyone with knowledge of these allegations to contact our Special Victims Division at 212-335-9373,” the Manhattan DA’s Office told CNN in a statement. “Our specially trained prosecutors, investigators and counselors are well-equipped to help you in a trauma-informed, survivor-centered manner.”
The allegations against Swalwell were documented in a bombshell report by the San Francisco Chronicle published on Friday, in which a woman accused Swalwell of sexual assault while she was heavily intoxicated. Three other women have accused Swalwell of sexual misconduct.
Supporters of Swalwell’s bid for governor have pulled their endorsements en masse. Swalwell has fiercely denied the allegations, and vowed to “fight them with everything that I have” in a video statement published on Friday.
