Shameful vandals sink to new low in Palisades Fire zone

Vandals don’t typically model grace or class or consideration, but tagging the properties of fire victims?

That’s low even for them.

In fact, it’s shameful conduct by lunatics.

Derelict graffiti artists have scrawled political slogans on homes, signs, trash cans and trees in the Palisades Fire zone, reporters found this week.

LA police and the county DA should ensure that the culprits are caught, prosecuted, and punished for their criminal acts.

No wrist slaps for the perpetrators. Not this time.

A property that appears to be under construction with a sign that reads
Why should fire victims face yet another headache so that vandals can spread vapid messages?

This kind of destruction nicks a nerve, batters those who are down, and strikes a blow against civilized conduct, respect for others’ struggle, and basic care and decency.

It requires condemnation, consequences, deterrence.

Consider: More than 6,500 homes were destroyed by the Palisades Fire in January 2025.

To date, just 13 have been rebuilt.

That speaks to the gauntlet the area’s residents must navigate to restore what smoke and flames destroyed.

And they must do this while working, caring for families, paying double the living expenses (rent plus the mortgage on uninhabitable properties), and more.

As Palisades Fire victim Ross Greenberg told The California Post Opinion team: “It’s vile to deface these properties. It’s still someone’s home; no one (should) do that in any neighborhood, let alone one that has burned down. We need more police on patrol and we need streetlights in the Palisades.”

Exactly.

Graffiti can be removed, yes, but why should fire victims face yet another headache so that vandals can spread vapid messages like “Free Palestine” and “Eat the Rich”?

The fact that the “activists” directed their destruction at those who’ve already faced so much loss is revealing –– and unbecoming.

For shame.
