Catholic University professor John Kenneth White declared President Donald Trump’s political standing unrecoverable in an opinion piece for The Hill, stating his presidency is effectively over.
White highlighted Trump’s broken campaign promises, including starting an Iran war amid economic decline and inflation, harsh immigration policies causing deportations, and sinking approval ratings hovering around 40 percent.
White writes, Trump governs “without the consent of the governed,” with dismal scores on inflation, cost of living, and immigration— issues voters prioritize. He also emphasized damaging images now associated with Trump: deaths caused by ICE agents in Minneapolis, persons of color fearing deportation, children in cages, and wounded soldiers from the Middle East conflict.
While Trump retains presidential powers for two more years, White cited Lincoln’s observation that “public sentiment is everything.” Hispanic Trump 2024 supporters have abandoned the party in Texas, and 67 percent of independents, who decide elections, disapprove of Trump’s performance.
