Conservative analyst Bill Kristol was floored on Saturday after President Donald Trumpunleashed his “most grotesque” outburst yet.
Trump posted on Truth Social that he is “glad” former FBI Director and Special Counsel Robert Muellerhad passed away over the weekend. Mueller, who had been battling Parkinson’s disease, led the 2016 investigation into ties between Trump’s presidential campaign and the Russian government, and issued a report that concluded the Russians favored Trump to win, even though it stopped short of calling the efforts “collusion.”
“Robert Mueller just died. Good, I’m glad he’s dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people! President DONALD J. TRUMP,” Trump wrote.
Kristol, editor-at-large for The Bulwark, discussed Trump’s comments on a new episode of the “Bulwark Takes” podcastwith host Tim Miller.
“Nothing’s unimaginable, obviously, in the era of Trump and in the character of Trump, but it is on the edge of the worst things he’s said and the most grotesque,” Kristol said.
He noted that it seems unlikely Trump will face any pushback from the Republican caucus.
“Will there be anyone who attempts to preserve any sense of dignity and respect for people who serve their country in public life?” Kristol asked.
